CURRENT STUDENT BREAKS INTO STEP 3 FOOTBALL

17-Year-old Hugh Cullum, current academy student, creates a positive impact for Needham Market first team after four successful appearances.

The current second-year student at Needham Market Academy is further evidence of the prestigious pathway we provide at Needham Market Football Club. Hugh has progressed from our youth sides into the academy and continued to develop through the reserve and now first team football.

Kevin Horlock, Academy & First Team Manager said: “Hugh is a current student we’ve always seen potential in and one that would be able to progress through our pathway. He has been a vital part of our reserve team therefore exposed to men's football from a young age which has enhanced his development.”

“He’s professional, reliable and willing to listen and learn, and this coupled with his ability, will give him the opportunity to climb the football pyramid.”

The new first-team center-back, Hugh Cullum said: “I joined the academy to focus on my next steps after high school and football was a passion I wanted to continue alongside my education.”

“Last year was hard, with online learning and restricted sessions due to Covid-19, but I was determined not to let that have an effect on my personal development as a player. With the support of my tutors and coaches at the academy, I was able to prove myself and receive this opportunity to play step three football with Needham’s First Team.”

“It’s an incredible feeling to be playing at such a high level at the age of 17, the first team players and staff have welcomed me into the squad and allowed me to settle in well and I can’t thank them enough for giving me this opportunity.”
